I love fairy tales because of their haunting beauty and magical strangeness. They are set in worlds where anything can happen. Frogs can be kings, a thicket of brambles can hide a castle where a royal court has lain asleep for a hundred years, a boy can outwit a giant, and a girl can break a curse with nothing but her courage and steadfastness. In this case, this frog wishes that he could be in a fairytale, be swooped up and kissed, and turned magically into a prince or king. But, sadly, he at the mercy of Riley…or me, when I rescue him and throw him, hopping mad, over the fence! However, it is not only in fairy tales that girls can break curses with nothing but steadfastness and courage…we can break curses by believing in ourselves, being brave, having courage, facing our fears, stepping out of our comfort zones. With each little step in these directions we grow more and more in confidence, realizing that the demons, dragons, and curses are self inflicted and in our heads. If we believe, we are capable of anything! Just remember that!!
