Once something has outlived its usefulness in one area of life, its purpose for being in existence is no longer the same. The leaf that captures a stream of sunlight, and then transfers its energy to the tree, serves one purpose in the spring and summer, and another completely different one
through the fall and winter. Guy Finley
Overnight, these leaves have clearly outlived their usefulness, and have made a beautiful carpet beneath the tree….all in one go. Their season of usefulness seems short lived – about six months or so, reminding us to make the most of each and every moment in the day! I am grateful for them for a couple of reasons: 1) they have provided a beautiful carpet of color for Riley to pose in; and 2) I don’t have to sweep them up – woohoo….then benefits of living in a complex!!! No raking for me this fall! Saturday’s can be spent with some other indulgence instead…like going for a guilt-free run and just enjoying it, not just worrying about the leaves that have to be swept up as soon as you get home, and how you are going to fit everything else into the schedule because you know it will take all day!
