I never did anything by accident, nor did any of my inventions come by accident; they came by work. Thomas A. Edison
As with Thomas Edison, the invention of the gas outboard motor did not happen by accident, but by years of hard work. I love that the historical places and their story on the island are marked with special boards. This is just around the corner from our house. I never even gave any thought that there would have been a first launch of a gas powered outboard motor, since I have always known them. But, this was the launch site of the very first motor by Cameron Waterman in February 1905 from this side of the island across the river to Detroit mainland. Pretty cool!
