“The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.” – Christopher McCandless
This year has been one of new beginnings (again). It seems as though a lot has been packed in, but yet, it feels like it is still the beginning of the year. Through all the changes, I am still trying to find the joy! This pic from around the time of GirlChild2s college graduation brought some peace and joy to what the future could possibly hold. We, as a family (basically down to Expert2 and myself, and the entourage of animals), have taken a leap of faith, and are settling somewhere where we can hopefully retire to one day, and where I can work to contribute to that retirement, so we can actually retire, and somewhere near the kids (for now)!! This has meant that we will not be in a typical situation for the next couple of years, but will hold onto the promise of new days and new beginnings, and make the most of where we are under the circumstances for now. So far, San Diego has totally lived up to my expectations, although I didn’t really know what to expect, and I am loving the challenge of actually working in a ‘real’ job again. It feels a little like living in Joburg, but by the sea. The entourage have also settled pretty well – and Riley is truly living the life of Riley; Campbell is in heaven having retired to GirlChild2- getting all the love and attention from her and her four roommates; Mouse is loving being the OnlyCat again; and GrandKitty Momo is enjoying weekend sleepovers! So, I am holding onto the joy of endlessly changing horizons and new adventures each day, and grateful for the opportunity!
Another adventure to be lived out. It sounds like such fun Sarah. You and your family have done so much. I am envious. 🙂
I am grateful for our adventures Paul…and remind myself to be grateful, and grateful for the privilege that has got us here. It has been a whirlwind year, and yes, we are on another adventure! Am quite exhausted, but happy where we are. It is not an ideal family setup – Mike is based in Germany for a couple of years, and I am in San Diego. But, I am near my girls for the first time in four years, and loving being near them! And, I am loving my new job. Pleased I took a chance to go back to get another degree – am loving my new job! I should have become a librarian years ago! Moral of the story, live each day and take those chances!
